Are We There Yet?

I’m tired, I missed Bens birthday the other day, of course I miss the girls birthdays all the time because they are so far away. I am bummed today a little. The new guys for the Army Reserve detachment came here a couple of days ago and they all seem very eager to “get the Job done”. They are stepping on a few toes while they do this,. The 48th will be here soon to replace us and then the next few months are in limbo. I am working pretty hard and my patience is waning. I just want to punch someone in the face or shoot at something. Guess I just need to work out more. When I get home we are going to have a welcome home party at the VFW I think. Than the guys should set up some kind of a show. I am very done with this place, can’t wait to get back on with my life. I cant wait to drink real milk and eat real pizza and have a guiness. crap in my own bathroom, not have to salute and sleep throught the night. I miss my family and friends. Cant wait to go home.

Sorry,,Have not posted in a while,. (busy busy). The other day I met the SMG of the Army. That was pretty cool, we had a CSM Conference here and the place was crawling with the guys. Things are going ok, no real action, in fact it has been quite boring. We are nearing the end of our deployment, the Sycamore guys are home now which bummed me out a little. I would have liked to go home with them but it is what it is. It is getting a little hotter here and the green stuff is beginning to die pretty quickly. We are going to be experiencing a lot of changes in the next few months. (what that means I have no idea). I will do my best to take care and I will see you all in a couple of months.

Schutzenschnur

On the 15th I went through downtown Kabul. It was pretty different, dirty and very busy. I shot in a competition called Schutzenschnur. It is a marksmanship test where you shoot German weapons and were timed to shoot five targets. It was harder than it looked, there were three medals. There was the Bronze, Silver and Gold. I got Bronze and had quite a bit of fun doing it. I can put the award on my Class A’s and it is a permanent award. It was a nice break from the Alamo.

I am a little crabby right now because I am here but I only have about 4 or 5 months to go. I was able to see my family (which was nice) and we bought a cat which Ben appropriately named Phil. The girls came down from Canada and we spent some time in Chicago. Things are going ok, It is getting hotter here so my pasty white but is going to fry. Oh well.

Sorry not to have posted in a while but I have been really busy. A couple of days ago I went into a school to help out. We are giving the teachers and students supplies and things that help them with their jobs. If you think that American teachers get paid squat you should see these Afghan Teachers. The other picture is of Baxter (my boy) he is getting so big. No matter how crappy things are here he always greets me with a wag of the tail (smile).

Crappy Birth Day

Well, I am a year older and I got to celebrate my Birth Day in a foreign country. I spent the day with the ANA and almost got into a fight with one of the more surly ones. The ANA have a tendency to test you and if you give it back to them they back down pretty quickly. Any how I ate some carrot cake in the evening and did some guitar lessons after dinner. Also on a side note Baxter was taken from us and someone stole him and took him almost to Pakistan, (I was not too happy). However, someone did some checking and they returned him to us, he is a very good dog and I wish I could bring him home with me.
